Join Circe Consulting's Gina Frangello and Emily Rapp Black for "Decoding the Publishing Industry," a 4-week course focused on becoming more savvy about navigating your writing career.
Suitable for writers of all levels and stages, this experiential-based course will cover various aspects of the contemporary publishing landscape for writers of fiction and creative nonfiction/memoir. While some of what is covered would be suitable for writers of any genre, we will be focusing primarily on non-genre "literary/commercial fiction, memoirs, and essay collections. Though we will discuss short form work, the ideal participant in this course is someone also interested in book publishing, either imminently or in the future.
About the Instructors:
Gina Frangello edits at RISE Books and Row House Publishing, and has been an editor for nearly 30 years, previously at The Los Angeles Review of Books, The Rumpus, The Nervous Breakdown, Other Voices magazine/OV Books, TriQuarterly Online, The Coachella Review, and editing anthologies for numerous presses, in addition to her work as a writer, teacher, coach, and ghostwriter. She has published thousands of writers, many of whom have received substantial honors such as inclusion in the Best American Short Stories of the Century and The Whiting Foundation Award.
Emily Rapp Black is a New York Times Bestselling writer whose blog was once selected as a Time Magazine top 20 blogs of the year, and who has ghostwritten multiple bestselling books in addition to her own critically acclaimed work. The former Creative Nonfiction editor at The Los Angeles Review of Books, she is now a tenured professor at the University of CA-Riverside working at the intersection of the medical school and the creative writing department, where she specializes in medical narratives and has worked with graduate students who went on to publish national bestselling books.
